Planning the Build
After years of hitting trails and pushing my truck to its limits, I decided it was time for a serious suspension upgrade. This project took me three weekends in the garage, but the results were worth every bolt turned.
I spent weeks researching different lift kit options, comparing brands, and reading reviews from other overlanders. The goal was to gain 3 inches of lift while maintaining ride quality and reliability.

Parts and Tools
This build required specialized tools including a spring compressor, torque wrench, and jack stands rated for heavy loads. I opted for a complete kit that included new shocks, coil springs, and all necessary hardware.
Required Tools:
- Spring compressor (essential for safety)
- Torque wrench (1/2” drive)
- Heavy-duty jack stands (minimum 3-ton)
- Floor jack
- Socket set (metric)
- Breaker bar
Parts Used:
- Complete 3” lift kit
- New shocks (all four corners)
- Coil springs
- Hardware kit
- Alignment shims

Installation Process
The installation started with safely lifting the truck and removing the wheels. Each corner was tackled methodically, ensuring proper torque specs and alignment throughout. The trickiest part was compressing the new springs safely.
Step-by-Step:
- Lift vehicle and secure on jack stands
- Remove wheels
- Disconnect sway bar links
- Remove shocks
- Compress and remove old springs
- Install new springs (with spring compressor)
- Install new shocks
- Reconnect sway bar links
- Torque all bolts to spec
- Professional alignment

Results and Testing
The difference was immediately noticeable. Ground clearance increased significantly, and the truck handled rough terrain with confidence. After a professional alignment, it drove better than ever on the highway too.
Before/After Stats:
- Ground clearance: +3 inches
- Approach angle: improved by 4°
- Departure angle: improved by 3°
- Ride quality: smoother on washboard roads

Pro Tips
- Always use properly rated jack stands and never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack
- Take photos of the stock setup before disassembly for reference
- Have your alignment done professionally after installation
- Break in new suspension components with 500 miles of varied driving before serious off-roading
- Label all bolts and hardware as you remove them
- Work on one corner at a time to maintain reference
Conclusion
This lift kit transformed my truck’s capability. Whether you’re planning a similar build or just curious about the process, I hope this helps. The best part? Every trail is now more accessible.
Total Time: ~20 hours over 3 weekends Difficulty: 8/10 Would I do it again? Absolutely
